Standard H2 Wins Prestigious ACS Green Chemistry Challenge Award for Breakthrough Gas Purification Technology

Recognition highlights revolutionary sulfur removal technology advancing the cost-effective purification of gases and dramatically extending catalyst lifetime with the regenerable SULFUR MAGNET®

RAVENNA, Ohio — [July 7, 2026] — Standard H2 today announced it has received the American Chemical Society (ACS) Green Chemistry Challenge Award in the Design and Manufacture of Materials for Energy Applications for its groundbreaking purification technology that removes volatile sulfur compounds to below 200-parts-per-trillion while dramatically reducing waste, improving efficiency, and extending the life of catalysts with a recyclable or regenerable sorbent.

Standard H2 is being recognized for the SULFUR MAGNET®, a patented and easily regenerated filter media made primarily of mixed oxides of copper and other metals. The adsorption material efficiently removes sulfur, enabling compact, cost-effective purification of feed streams for fuel cell applications, syngas-based processes, and more, thereby dramatically extending catalyst lifetime and reducing system complexity.

The Green Chemistry Challenge Awards recognize technologies that reduce or eliminate hazardous substances, conserve energy and water, and advance sustainability while delivering measurable economic benefits. Established in 1996 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and now

administered by the American Chemical Society, the awards are among the highest honors in sustainable chemistry.

Standard H2’s patented purification platform replaces disposable media with an easily regenerable process that continuously removes sulfur contaminants from fuel gas streams. The technology enables cleaner hydrogen for fuel cells, electrolyzers, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial gas applications, and other critical processes where even trace amounts of sulfur can significantly impact performance, reliability, and equipment life.

“This recognition validates what we’ve believed from the beginning—that sustainable chemistry and better business outcomes go hand in hand,” said James Wasas, Chief Science Officer, Standard H2. “Our mission has always been to solve one of hydrogen’s most persistent contamination challenges while eliminating unnecessary waste and lowering operating costs for our customers. Receiving the ACS Green Chemistry Challenge Award is an incredible honor for our team.”

Hydrogen is expected to play a central role in the global transition to cleaner energy, but impurities such as hydrogen sulfide remain a significant obstacle to efficient production, storage, transportation, and other uses. Standard H2’s technology addresses this challenge by providing ultra-high-purity hydrogen without relying on single-use purification materials that generate ongoing waste and replacement costs.

Key benefits of Standard H2 technology include:

● Removal of hydrogen sulfide to sub-parts-per-trillion concentrations

● Regenerable purification media that significantly reduce waste generation

● Extended operating life for fuel cells and other hydrogen equipment

● Lower total cost of ownership compared with disposable purification systems

● Improved system reliability across industrial and energy applications

● Reduced environmental impact through sustainable process design

● Ability to remove sulfur from natural gas, biogas, and other process streams

The award reflects the growing importance of innovative chemistry in enabling the hydrogen economy and other clean chemical processes. As industries worldwide invest in clean infrastructure, technologies that remove sulfur impurities while minimizing environmental impact will become increasingly essential.

“Our team believes the future of hydrogen depends not only on producing more hydrogen, but on producing cleaner hydrogen more efficiently,” added Wasas. “This award recognizes the chemistry that makes that future possible.”

Standard H2 continues to expand partnerships across the hydrogen value chain, helping organizations improve hydrogen quality while supporting broader sustainability and decarbonization goals.
